Rangers Appoint Former Liverpool and Blackburn Star Stig Inge Bjørnebye as Football Consultant and Advisor

Rangers have appointed Stig Inge Bjørnebye as a football consultant and advisor for an initial six-month period. The 56-year-old Norwegian, recognized for over 300 appearances with clubs such as Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers, will commence his role at Ibrox this week. He will work closely with the current football leadership team.

Stig Inge Bjørnebye’s Background

Before joining Rangers, Bjørnebye held positions as a sporting director at Rosenborg and Danish club Aarhus. His experience is expected to bring valuable insights to the club’s football strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities

In his advisory capacity, Bjørnebye will report directly to chairman Andrew Cavenagh. His primary focus will be on providing additional experience in football matters. This includes influencing planning and activities as the January transfer window approaches.

  • Working alongside head coach Danny Röhl
  • Supporting the recruitment team
  • Contributing to transfer planning decisions

Transfer Strategy and Club Direction

Head coach Danny Röhl will collaborate with Bjørnebye in strategizing the upcoming transfer window. However, the final decisions regarding player acquisitions will be made by Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chair Paraag Marathe.

Rangers are actively seeking a new CEO and sporting director following the dismissal of Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell last month. Currently, the search for a CEO is more advanced than that for a sporting director, but Bjørnebye’s role is not interim.

Future Additions to the Squad

As the January transfer window draws near, Rangers aim to strengthen various positions, particularly in defense and midfield. There are considerations for adding more attacking options. Notably, no regular starters are anticipated to leave under Röhl’s management.

This appointment reflects Rangers’ ongoing efforts to enhance their footballing framework while navigating current leadership transitions.
