Dr. Le Guerrier expressed his worries about increased gatherings during the holidays. With family reunions and social events, the opportunity for virus transmission expands. Currently, five measles cases have been reported in the province, and further infections could occur as gatherings intensify.
Vaccination Rates and Community Safety
To effectively prevent widespread transmission, approximately 95% of the population needs to be vaccinated. However, vaccination rates among high school students only reach 86–88%, which is below the required threshold.
Public Health Measures
In response to the rising threat, public health authorities have initiated measures. Letters have been distributed to schools across the province. Parents are encouraged to ensure their children have received both doses of the measles vaccine.
