Vijay Labels DMK as Enemy in Dramatic Erode Speech: A Battle Between Good and Evil

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay recently launched a fierce critique of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during a speech in Erode. He labeled the DMK an “evil force,” asserting that the party is obstructing his political ambitions in Tamil Nadu. This marked Vijay’s first public address since the tragic stampede in Karur in September, which resulted in 41 fatalities.

Vijay’s Critique of DMK’s Promises

During his speech at Vijayamangalam, Vijay pointed out the DMK’s unfulfilled promises relating to various welfare initiatives. He mentioned specific commitments, such as:

  • Gas cylinders priced at ₹100
  • Abolition of NEET
  • Waiving educational loans

Vijay argued that the DMK’s actions have contradicted its promises, questioning the implementation of the Athikadavu–Avinashi water diversion scheme, which aims to benefit agriculture in the region.

Concerns Over Water Management

He highlighted the inadequacy of the DMK in managing water resources, despite the significant project intended to channel surplus water from the Bhavani River. He challenged the government’s efficiency in river cleaning efforts, accusing them of focusing more on sand mining than on environmental concerns.

Defense Against Misrepresentation

In response to backlash regarding his earlier remarks in Kanchipuram, Vijay stated that his proposals were misrepresented. He emphasized that welfare programs should not be derogatorily categorized as “freebies.” He argued that using taxpayer money for public welfare is not a handout but a societal obligation.

Social Issues and Education

Vijay addressed pressing social issues, advocating for:

  • Accessible permanent housing for all
  • Increased educational opportunities, particularly for graduates
  • Stable employment for every family

He called attention to the rising number of school dropouts and questioned the validity of government claims regarding women’s safety in Tamil Nadu.

Political Legacy and Future Outlook

Reflecting on the political legacies of former leaders MG Ramachandran (MGR) and J Jayalalithaa, Vijay expressed newfound understanding of their criticisms toward the DMK. He articulated the struggle between what he views as good and evil in Tamil politics, positioning TVK as a force for positive change.

Security Measures for Gathering

Following the tragic events in Karur, significant security measures were implemented for the Erode meeting. Approximately 1,500 police officers were deployed, supplemented by:

  • 60 CCTV cameras
  • 40 walkie-talkies for coordination
  • 24 ambulances and a medical team of 72 doctors and 120 nurses

The local District Collector also ordered a temporary halt to liquor sales to ensure safety during the event. Notably, this gathering was significant as it was the first since KA Sengottaiyan took on a critical role within TVK, emphasizing the party’s growing influence in the politically crucial Kongu region.
