Milan Lucic Joins Scottish Hockey Team in Exciting Career Move
Canadian left winger Milan Lucic has made an exciting career move by joining the Fife Flyers, a team in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) based in Scotland. At 37 years old, Lucic has signed a contract that will see him play for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. This will mark his first experience playing overseas.
Milan Lucic’s Hockey Background
Lucic, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, has had an illustrious career in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 50th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Over his career, he played a total of 1,177 regular-season games and recorded 586 points and 1,301 penalty minutes. He also scored 77 points in 136 playoff games.
Stanley Cup Champion
Lucic was part of the Bruins team that celebrated a Stanley Cup victory in 2011. Additionally, he enjoyed success with the Vancouver Giants, where he contributed to winning the Memorial Cup championship in 2007.
Recent Challenges
Lucic faced some difficulties recently, suffering an injury just four games into the 2023-24 NHL season while playing for the Bruins. As a result, he was placed on long-term injury reserve. He missed the rest of the season due to a domestic incident and time spent in the NHL/NHLPA Assistance Program.
Joining the Struggling Fife Flyers
The Fife Flyers are currently facing challenges, sitting at the bottom of the 10-team British league with only three wins in their first 20 games. Lucic enters a roster that also features former NHL players like Simon Després and David Booth, the latter of whom signed in November but has yet to play.
Debut Expectations
As Lucic prepares to wear uniform No. 8 for the Flyers, his debut timing is contingent upon finalizing necessary paperwork related to a work visa.
Additional Signings in the EIHL
- Sami Aittokallio: Finnish goaltender signed a one-year contract with the Glasgow Clan, another EIHL team.
- This follows Aittokallio’s season off and a brief stint with the St. Louis Blues.
As Milan Lucic embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on the Fife Flyers as they look for a turnaround in their season.
